Dr. Muhammad Ahsan Akhtar is a Chief Scientific Officer and Consultant Gynaecologist specializing in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery at the First IVF Fertility Centre in Abu Dhabi. He holds the following qualifications: MBBS, DFFP, CCT (UK), MD (UK), MRCOG, and FRCOG. He is also an accredited sub-specialist in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (RCOG) in the UK.

Dr. Akhtar obtained his medical degree from King Edward Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan. He then completed his national obstetrics and gynaecology training in the Mersey Deanery in Liverpool, UK. Subsequently, he pursued clinical research training in assisted reproductive treatment (IVF) and was awarded an MD by the University of Warwick, UK. He further completed his subspecialist training in Reproductive Medicine accredited by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in the Northwest Deanery in Manchester, UK.
For many years, Dr. Akhtar worked as a Consultant in Gynecology, Reproductive Medicine, and Andrology at St Mary’s Hospital, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. He served as the Division Chief of the Corniche Fertility Centre at Corniche Hospital in Abu Dhabi.

With over 22 years of experience and many successful outcomes, Dr. Akhtar has developed special interests in various areas including female and male subfertility, fertility assessment, fertility treatments, andrology, congenital uterine anomalies, polycystic ovarian syndrome, low ovarian reserve, advanced age, recurrent miscarriages, recurrent implantation failure, failed IVF/ICSI cycles, 3D ultrasonography in gynecology, adolescent gynecology, reproductive surgery, and complex fertility cases, particularly those involving genetics.
Dr. Akhtar has contributed significantly to the field of reproductive medicine, with over 20 peer-reviewed publications, including case studies, meta-analyses, research trials, and Cochrane reviews. He has also delivered numerous prestigious international presentations and has authored several textbook chapters. In addition to his clinical practice, he served as an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK.
